Description of property
This historic stone house sits in a traditional hamlet in the parish of Pantón, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. It was originally part of a larger manor house that has since been divided, so there are neighbours attached on either side. The house itself has been carefully restored, keeping many of its original features while bringing it up to comfortable modern standards.
It is set over three floors, with high ceilings, original reinforced hardwood floors, large windows and traditional balconies that bring in plenty of light and look out over the surrounding countryside. The balconies have recently been restored and repainted, and are a good place to sit with a coffee and take in the rural views.
The house
Three double bedrooms, a living room with countryside views, a separate dining room, and a dedicated office or study. The kitchen and bathroom are newly fitted and fully equipped. There is also a laundry room, a pantry and additional storage, and on the ground floor a cellar and cool storage rooms, well suited to wine, preserves or use as a workshop.
The roof has recently been insulated and the window-frame insulation improved, which makes the house more comfortable and more efficient through the year.
Garden and land
There is a shaded garden to the front of the house, a quiet spot to sit or eat outside. Beyond it lies a productive vegetable garden leading to around an acre of pastureland, with direct road access through a double-gated entrance. It is suitable for growing, keeping a few animals, or simply having the space and open countryside around you. A private driveway leads to the house.
The area
Pantón sits in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, one of Galicia’s most distinctive rural regions, known for its terraced vineyards, its wines, the dramatic river canyons of the Sil and Miño, its Romanesque churches and monasteries, and its walking and cycling routes. It is a quiet, rural way of life, with clean air, good local food, and a real sense of community, and a growing number of international residents have settled in the area.
Nearby you have the Sil canyon river cruises, local bodegas for wine tasting, hiking and mountain biking, river beaches, and weekly markets and produce fairs.
Getting there
Monforte de Lemos is about 15 minutes away, Escairón about 10, Ourense about 45 minutes and Lugo about 50. The airports at Santiago and A Coruña are around 1 hour 45, and Vigo about 1 hour 30. Good road links make it easy to reach the coast and the cities from here.
In short
A restored stone house with genuine character, comfortable to live in, with useful storage and outbuildings and productive land, in one of Galicia’s most beautiful rural regions. It suits someone looking to live a rural life here, to grow, to keep animals, or simply to have space and quiet, with the practical comforts already taken care of.
